HERMOSA BEACH, CA 90254

Bordered by Manhattan Beach to the north and by Redondo Beach to the south and east, Hermosa Beach is the smallest of Southern California’s trio of Beach Cities. Still, the fun and exciting coastal city has lots to offer – enough in fact to earn its claim of being “The Best Little Beach City.”

“Hermosa,” Spanish for “beautiful,” adequately captures the irresistible spirit of the coastal lifestyle that this South Bay city offers. Today, Hermosa Beach is home to nearly 20,000 residents and is one of the most desirable summer holiday destinations in the Greater Los Angeles area.

History

Originally a parcel of land belonging to the Rancho San Pedro Spanish land grant, the area that later became Hermosa Beach used to be a vast expanse of hills and grain fields. The land was first surveyed in 1901, with the first pier completed in 1904. In January 1907, Hermosa Beach was officially incorporated, in the process acquiring ownership of the two miles of ocean frontage that it now flaunts as its main draw for tourists and prospective residents.
